American English

Spanish, but I learned English shortly after to the point where I can say either one is my native language and confuse people (though my English is infinitely better than my Spanish).

American English, but I am trying to learn Russian, and soon will start learning a bit of Italian.

Му Native language is Russian. However I manly use English for the past 25 years. It was difficult at first for a couple of years, but after that it became natural. I still have an accent, but it doesn't give me any problems.

Here's funny thing. Back in 80's and 90's when the computer industry was booming, I used to go around the the country making presentations. And I was usually starting my speech with the words: "Please excuse my heavy New Jersey accent". Some people laughed, but many really thought that my accent is from NJ. Mainly in Texas or Southern California.

It's interesting that many Americans respect people who have an accent. I think it's mainly due to James Bond type movies, where every "mad scientist" speaks with Russian or German accent. Not in the big cities, though. Like in New York most got used to it, because of the large number of recent immigrants. And they just have to accept it as a natural evil. I never had a problem with my accent in NYC, until they put me in the office together with the Irish girl. I think it took like 2 months or so, before we started to understand each other

I agree, I think that many Russian do it as well. I do, I find the accents a lovely thing. The accents and using of the wrong words. It's always sounds funny and often very cute and just touching. Accents are like our individual features - they make people seem special. It's a kind of the prejudice (but the opposite thing). The same feeling we have when look at the people in the glasses - we mind them clever and intelligent inconciously.

Это не удивительно. Понять, от куда акцент, можно только, если с ним было знакомство до этого. Скажем русский знакомый. В Нью Йорке, например, все меня мнговенно вычисляют, как русского, благодаря куче русских иммигрантов, которые тут живут. Но стоит отъехать на несколько десятков миль н запад, в Пенсильванию, например, то большинство считает мой акцент французким или немецким. Думаю это тоже из за кинофильмов, где американские актеры просто изобретают акценты.

Yes, this is another movie stereotype. If some kid is wearing grasses, he must be some kind of nerd Real men don't use glasses. ...perhaps contacts, if they have vision problems.

Only if they are non-American accents. People in New York (and many other large cities around the U.S.) strongly believe that people from the South with nice "Southern" accents... are as dumb as bricks. This happens a great deal. I happen to have a very non descriptive accent, that is until I say something like "ya'll" or "listen up" and then all my credibility goes out the window and I am forever labeled as a dumb hick from the south!

And I wanna help to make it better, for all who learn it. And for many Russians who does not know how to speak Russian good.

Finland... Hm... The country of heavy metal and Nokia. Nightwish, Stratovarius, Sentenced, Apocalyptica, Sinergy, Lordi, To/Die/For, Warmen, Lullacry this is short list of bands which I know. I don't know another country where so much of well-know bands for the whole world. I mean non English speaking country. So you must be proud of your country as well-know country in the world. By the way, what are you know about Russia, except bears and vodka? Nothing! Or not?

Well, there is one variant: you don't like your language. Why, if it's not secret? How many another languages you know?
