Thread: What is the best Russian film you have EVER seen?

There are many Russian movies, and many of them are really good! Which one is your all round favorite?

It is maybe unfair to single out only one, but life is hard and can be used as a hammer if need be.

My favorite is собачье сердце!

However, I would recommend to see all the films in the poll list!

Кстати.... "Белое солнце пустыни" is a must in this list.

The "only" russian film I have ever seen is, "дурак дом" ... and I didn't see it listed.

My favorite is АНДРЕЙ РУБЛЕВ. Absolutely.

Зеркало, Носталгия, Андрей Рублёв...accompanied by Сталкер, Солярис, Жертвоприношение and Иваново детство.

Возвращение is perhaps the best "modern" I have seen

I chose 12 chairs from this list but there r more that I love to watch...

Are you talking about “дом дураков”?

"probably," Dagoth. It is Englishly written "House of Fools" But I don't read Russian so I don't know! It was just odd that I was a few days prior having an online conversation when the words came up--and then coming across the movie in the video store.

petite: there is the foreign section of video stores. This one was ACTUALLY on the new release shelves so I have to go bear hug the manager for his part.

I clicked on this advertisment:

click on the titles in blue and it will take you to a page with "some" english explaination: enough to say what languages the subtitles are in.

Always be sure to check to make sure the movie is in your right format.
Europe and over there seems to be in PAL
over here NTSC

Actually, I have found a whole lot of subtitled Russian films at my local library. At least here, one can even rent the DVD's for free!

Otherwise, check your local russian магазин, there is bound to be one somewhere, Russians are everywhere! Sometimes they sell/rent out movies with english subtitles.

Good luck! And this is the best way to learn Russian language and Culture!

unfortunately australians have nothing russian, i could hardly get some french film sometimes
