    Issue about prostituation issue

we learn a book about different taboos (sex, death, telling lies, torture and some others)

so there is one about prostitution

    they ask
is prostitution a practical issue or a moral one?

i cant understand what they mean

практический и моральный вопрос о проституции???
it doesnt make sense at all!!!
and sounds really awkward in russian!

    i could understand

    then is it

a complicated issue or a straightforward one??

are adjectives complicated and straghtforward opposing???
they seem to mean it but i dont really think we can contrast them

maybe i dont understand the actual meaning again??

    and finally
is it an important issue or a non-issue?

i suppose from the context that non-issue means 'not important'
    am i correct?

    Nor can I.

Yes. It's another poorly-written question. Also, I'd say "opposites" rather than "opposing".

    Yes, perfectly so.

I wouldn't say that any of what you're quoting is very pleasant English, but it'd make some sense if it was intended for studying by foreigners, since if you didn't recognise "complicated", you might recognise "straightforward" and understand the meaning of the sentence still.

I think that by a practical issue they are asking does prostitution happen out of need.

Is prostitution a social issue reflecting the financial inequities of a stratified society or is it a moral issue governed by what is right and wrong on a moral or perhaps religious basis?

This is not the same as saying complicated versus straight forwarded.

Practical vs. moral is very different than complicated vs. straigh forward.

Usually when they debate it in terms of Practical and Moral, it's talking about whether a society/state should regulate or prohibit it. Practically, does the state have a role in it?: There are STDs, pregnancies, safety-issues for the hooker vs. it's a huge industry/people are going to do it anyway/why not regulate it and just make it safer/etc. The moral issues are more like: God opposes it/certain social groups opposite it on ethical grounds (Churchgoers since God is against it, feminists since it objectifies women, etc) vs. it's no one's business what someone else does with their body, people are just like animals and free, etc...
