    Sentence from a webcast!

    Привет всём!

I've thown myself in the deep end and started listening to some Russian webcasts. It's a great way to hear native Russian speakers and pick up pronounciation and vocabulary. Of course, I use the optional provided scripts. (In fact I think I got the link from someone on this forum.)

Anyway I've attempted translating them but this sentence today stumped me. (I have a bad dictionary).

Конгресс США выделил 62 миллиона долларов на помощь жертвам урагана и ликвидацию последствий «Катрины».

"The US Congress (picked out?) 62 million dollars to aid casualties of the hurricane and ликвидацию последствий ?? "Katrina."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Спасибо!

Literally, this means "liquidation of consequences".
Maybe, it makes more sense to say "исправление последствий" (correction of consequences) or something alike. However, "ликвидация последствий" is kind of common expression when someone is talking about disasters.

Milanya, if you have the electric power to read this (I forget where you are in Texas):

"The US Congress allocated 62 million dollars to aid casualties of the hurricane and ликвидацию последствий ?? "Katrina."

    victims not casualties
    and probably
    repair the damage from Katrina

I new that, I was translating the word выделил - allocated. At the moment I did not have time for anything else.
