It's just a matter of personal experience, and should be taken as such. All I am saying is that taken out of specific context "сладкий" is unlikely to mean homosexual, while "gay community" is not going to mean "happy community" no matter how you use it in a sentence. How your teacher chooses to use it is a different topic of discussion.
