No, that's fine in english. Generally you have to say he literally loves the sun for it to be taken that way.
I meant that it may come out sounding that way in Russian.

Is the verb нужeн always preced by the word in dative?
Нужен is not a verb; when you say нужно, it means necessary, so you're basically saying "to him it is necessary to..." and so on.

Also, why does писать need to be imperfective?
It doesn't. It should be perfective.

The verb "нюхать" is for when someone is smelling something; it's more like "to sniff". Here, you want the verb пахнуть (to smell or to smell of):

    Пирог хорошо (или вкусно) пахнет.

Он вдруг забыл, что он делает. - it seems to me that the Russians tend not to start sentences as much with "вдруг" like we do with "suddenly" in English.

Wrote or read? Remember, when an action has been completed, you've got to use the perfective form of the verb - so which would you use here, красть или украсть? By the way...where are these sentences coming from?

Since I think it's really best that you figure this out on your own (you'll remember it better ), here you are:
Rethink your grammar here: what case should the doer of the action should be in? Remember patterns - what do most verbs look like in the past tense? What kind of ending do they have? One last thing - what case does the direct object (receiver of the action) take?

Какая статья в газете вы напишал?

    Ok, let's take this apart!

You're close on the verb, good guess. If you're using the formal вы, you need the plural form of the past tense - написали. To make the past tense of most verbs, you simply take the infinitive (написать), drop the ending (написа-), and add the ending that corresponds to the doer of the action (here, написали).

Next - статья is the direct object - it's the object of написать, so it must be in the accusative case. Статья is a feminine noun, which means that even though it's inanimate, the ending changes in accusative case. Since it ends in a "soft" vowel, the vowel in the accusative must also be soft.
(remember а -> у and я -> ю. Hear how they go together?). Last, the adjective changes to agree with the noun, so it takes accusative too.

    *drumroll*

Какую статью в газете вы написали?

    Keep it up!

Blimey, I can't even begin to think how a russian speaker would do that naturally when it would take me a few minutes to get it straight in my head and then a few practice runs before it comes out fluently. Wow...

I do see what I did wrong though, so I'll try to keep that in mind. Thanks Moryachka!

    Shouldn't this be
    Yesterday, the sun was hot.
    Вчера, солнце было жарко.

I wrote the book "Who stole my eggs?".
Я написал книгу, "Кто крал мои яйца?".

I read the book "Who stole my eggs?".
Я прочитал книгу, "Кто крал мои яйца?".

    Yesterday, the sun was hot.
    Вчера, солнце было жарко.
The sentence is incorrect in both languages. Nobody says this in English either to mean "it was hot." Of course, if you really meant to say "the sun was hot..."

I wrote the book "Who stole my eggs?".
Я написал книгу, "Кто крал мои яйца?".

I read the book "Who stole my eggs?".
Я прочитал книгу, "Кто крал мои яйца?".
    Moryachka's sentences were already correct.

to Moryachka Все поправки абсолютно правильны
    Только время глагола:

The pie smelled good. - Пирог нюхал хорошен.
    Пирог хорошо (или вкусно) пахнет.
    пирог вкусно пах

Yesterday, the sun was hot. - Вчера, солнце было жаркая.

    Вчера солнце было жаркое

    или просто

    Вчера было жарко

    -------------

The pie smelled good. - Пиерог нюхал хорошен.

    Пирог хорошо пах.

    ---------
Suddenly he forgot what he was doing! - Вдруг, он знал что то он делает!

    Он внезапно забыл что делал
    ------
I read the book "Who stole my eggs?". - Я читал книгу, "Кто крал мои яйца?".

Я читал книгу "Кто украл мои яйца?"

    не процесс кражи а результат

    ------------------
Which article in the newspaper did you write? - Какая статья в газете вас напишете?

Какую статью в газете вы написали?

I was just doing some reading, and I'm not sure exactly what this says:
Вот и хорошо, что у нас свой дом!

Maybe something to the effect of "Here is good, at our house"? и must have another meaning.... Does it? Thanks.

    [EDIT] is this correct?
