It is from everywhere in Russia. I like the pea soup too. The borsch and the pea soup - these are my favourites. (hmm, it seems that I don't need articles there, eh?.. )Originally Posted by rockzmom

In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
What do you call the pea soup in Russian?
I wanted to look up the recipe to see if it's similar to ours. Cos, for example, the British pea soup was completely different!

Thank you, for mentioning this. I was not familiar with this and Googled it. So, he is your version of Robin Hood?Originally Posted by kamka

Thanks for the corrections, rockzmom. We studied British English at school, so my spelling is a mix of both. And the whole center/centre thing is killing me, because I never can get that HTML tag right.
I'm not sure the pea soup is a national Russian cuisine, so it's kinda from everywhere (no specific "native" region). I'm surprised there are two forumits who love it, though! It's not very common where I live, I like it too, but alas the last time I ate it was a few years ago, and my Mom cooked it exactly... once in my lifetime.
PS. Forget all I've written above. I was talking about bean soup.
Because of where we live, the big one here is Capital/Capitol and then of course there is always, Principal/Principle.Originally Posted by gRomoZeka

very much so, yes. I was head over heels in love with Janosik when I was a child and there was a TV series about him on the telly - I even remember crying out "My husband's been killed!" after seeing the last episode in which he was killedOriginally Posted by rockzmom
I'm not Russian though, just so you don't get confused

My grammar book says you don't put the articles in frnt of meals, unless you have a specific one in mind (the pea soup we had at my granny's), then again, I am by no means an authority on English grammar

Оля,
I'm sorry I did not respond to you. I actually thought you were making a statement and being proud of yourself and not asking me a question!
As for articles, I actually have NO idea. Maybe we can see if one of the SMART people can answer this one. I do have a Grammar for Dummies book that I can look in. Have you ever been to http://www.scribd.com they have books online that you can look at online or download in PDF or Word. That was were I got my copy of Grammar for Dummies.

Not really, it's just that to a certain extent standardisation of spelling in English didn't happen until after US independence. There are many cases where the US spelling is actually older.Originally Posted by rockzmom
