Thread: hard and soft "r"

Please, listen to this song and say, whether the the singer pronounces "ar" like эрь or like эр.
Does he pronounce "beag" as бёг or as бэг?

Куча народу на форуме - ни один не может послушать песню и сказать, что слышит. Мне важно понять: я глухой или он действительно непонятно произносит.

В "эр" звук чуть-чуть смягчён, но для меня он всё же гораздо ближе к твёрдому русскому "р" чем к мягкому.
Beag - на какой минуте и какой секунде?

beag - 5, 6 строчки второй строфы 50-60 с Слово повторяется три раза.

Я лично слышу там звук, очень близкий к русскому "э". Может быть, немного менее открытый, но не округлённый.

Поделюсь и я своим мнением. Дважды пытался это послушать, но не хватало терпения дослушать даже до середины. Слишком уж не понравилось. Для моего уха это просто набор малоприятных звуков, а не песня. Так что просто трудно было заставить себя разбирать, что и как они там произносят.
Тысяча извинений, но вот поделился мнением. )

Эта песня ещё весьма благозвучная.

Marcus, maybe you could explain why it matters to you whether ONE IRISH GUY, namely the lead singer of Na Casaidigh, pronounces the Irish Gaelic word ar with a "hard Russian r" or a "soft Russian r", and whether he pronounces the first letter in baeg as a "hard Russian b" or a "soft Russian b".

I mean, if you're studying Irish Gaelic and want to improve your own accent, then you need to record yourself saying the words ar and baeg, put the recording on YouTube, and ask for feedback from Irish Gaelic speakers.

Or, if you want to know whether the lead singer of Na Casaidigh sings with "proper Gaelic pronunciation", or if he has an English accent that's difficult to understand -- again, the people who can best answer this question are speakers of Irish Gaelic, not Russians!

He doesn't have English accent. I pronounce these sounds correctly. But I don't here the softnes of "r" here. My Irish teacher said I had problems either with my ears or with my brain. And I want to understand if it is my perception or the manner of singer's pronunciation.

I don't know Irish, I have no idea what he's saying or how it should be transliterated into Russian.... In order to get feedback on this type of thing you probably need to ask in a forum for the Irish language. I don't think anyone here knows Irish. Perhaps the Irish teacher that you mention could simply tell you? As far as I have heard, Irish is a very hard language and almost nobody speaks it well other than those who know it from childhood. It's really hard to understand your interest in such a small language, where all the speakers already know English! I understand that you have your reasons, but the exoticness of the combinatin of being Russian and studying Irish is probably a bit the level of surprise from you, if I started asking questions about Russian languages like "Bashkir" or "Tuvan"....

Perhaps the Irish teacher that you mention could simply tell you?

I didn't believe that and decided to ask other people what they hear. It was very strange for me that I don't hear the difference between hard and soft consonants!
You don't need to know Irish, I just ask you to say what you hear.
