Oh, now I see the difference. Thanks Ken.
Is this pronunciation standart both for AE and for BE?
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
No. The pronunciation is radically different for BE (what you hear is AmE). BE has some unusual treatment of the /r/. Of course, if I were a Brit, I would be saying that AmE has some unusual treatment of the /r/. The only thing "standard" is that the two words sound different in both languages.Originally Posted by Оля

Actually... well... actually... BE interests me much more than AE... Now...![]()

BrE and AmE might treat the [r] differently, but 'word' and 'ward' are pronounced differently in both, that is, in neither dialect would 'word' and 'ward' sound the same.
Paradoxically, 'ward' has the [o] vowel sound, and 'word' doesn't.

Аватар(а), in Russian, can be both female and male. Я уточняла. :P Это вопрос личных предпочтений.Originally Posted by Rtyom

P.S. - Thank you. I didn't think it up, of course, but thank you.

yes kudos is singular, but you and I are the only people in the world who know that. It is like eros, thantos, lesbos, synposis, hypothesis, parenthesis, and that whole S crowd from Greece.
