    Point taken

I heard it yesterday and actually can't write the complete context,
although there were two men arguing about the price. After one of them said his last proposal the second one answered in a bare tone: "Point taken"
I wonder when can I say that (apart of argues about prices )?
Is it a usual phrase or has it some dry tone? I mean is it kind/polite to say that when I understood someone's point of view?
    Я так думаю.

Indra, понимаешь, я знаю смысл этого выражения, мне нужно несколько ситуаций, где оно может повстречаться скорее всего
    Я так думаю.

I take "point taken" to mean I understand your point but it doesn't sway my opinion totally. It is not used as a bad term.

Yes, it's basically a civilized way to let your opponent know that you have heard his position/argument -- which you don't usually encounter, because usually these things devolve into shouting matches...

It's pretty gracious. More so than "yeah, I suppose" or "mmm, I guess" or something like that. It's "yes, you are completely right".

Point taken can be used as Yes, you're completely right? Did I take your point right?

correct, but it goes a little further, it means "Yes, you are correct, but that doesnt mean im changing my mind"

    In my opinion at least.

I agree. It means, more or less, "I don't want to argue over it, I understand your point of view, I'm not backing down on my opinion but I don't want to sqabble over it."

I consider it a little rude in most cases, not something you'd say to your boss, grandmother, etc.

I'd say it was more like "Yes, you're completely right?" than you lot say, but that's just my opinion .

What!??! On the contrary, it's a polite way to avoid a confrontation, not start one...Of course, I don't know how you use it Layne, and ANYTHING could be used in a negative way, but 99% of usage of this phrase = diplomatic way to avoid arguing (further).

I can't remeber ever using the phrase myself and of course usages differ by region etc. and anything can be said sarcastically. But for the most part people do not want you to diplomaticly stop an argument because that means you still don't believe them. Ideally they want you to come over to their way of thinking and if thats not possible they want to yell about it until one of you storms out. So when you say 'point taken' the listener may hear 'I don't believe you and I don't want to hear you talk about it anymore', and of course what you say is not nearly as important as how its perceived.

Point taken = I understand where you're coming from and you may be right, but let's just agree to disagree.

A debating term, used alot on civilized talk shows (not the shout/ pontification matches) currently. Point, Counterpoint.
I'm easily amused late at night...

Sorry for off-topic, but what does "answered in a bare tone" mean? Does it mean "answered emotionlessly" ("ответил сухо")?
    Correct my English, please.
