Does anyone know where the name NESTERENKO comes from? Okay it's Ukrainian, but what does it mean?
I've always thought it was derrived from "Nestor". Is this correct, does anyone know more about it?

Nestor is a Greek name, so I thought that there could be some christian saint called Nestor, from whoose name Nester and Nesterenko were derived
The first Nestor was not a Christian saint. The name is older from the ancient times.Originally Posted by eroem

It does come from that name taht could have several variants - Нестер, Нестор, Несторий. See here for example. I understand the name is not Christian in itself but most likely there was a saint in the Hellenic world who had such a name and got in the Christian calendar. And most Russian names of Greek origin come from the Eastern Orthodox calendar with saint-days.

За то, что меня нет рядом,
Ты прости, сестра моя, Югославия...

Thanks, Ljosha, now it's all clear to me
