My piano tutor had such second name - Meerova with the stress on the first e is a second name as well - there is no such first name in Russia.
I guess that root Meer has German origins. Perhaps it has any link with Jewish names of Germany and Austria.
As far as I know, none of native Russian female names have such meaning. Most of names as female as male used in Russian have Greek, Latin, Jewish, English, German, Turkic and some other roots. The few Slavic names I can call are Владимир, Святослав, Ярослав and some other.
    Я так думаю.

Well, I guess the father of the guy who wrote that book had the name Meer. But it's definitely of non-Russian origin...
I would be grateful if you would correct my mistakes, since I would like my English to sound as natural as possible.

It's not what you think, Leof.

What do you think I was thinking then?

I simply try to think logically. Russian second name Мейерова or perhaps Меерова seems to have German origin. Like Мейерхольд. Meer means Sea or Ocean in German or something like that. The second name Meer or perhaps Meier [mayer] which has many meanings and could be transformed in Russian like Mеер could arrive in Russia since the early eighteenth century and later. It might be German or German/Jewish as well.
Although they might be any other - perhaps there is any russian word like меер. Or the first Meerov was a son of a mayor?? Who knows.
Anyway I believe Meerova could be from Jewish family - as my tutor was.
    Я так думаю.

rimona Shirmin - like Ширмин or Ширмин sounds very like Russian second name too. None of Russian first names seem to have such writing/pronunciation.
    Я так думаю.
