Because of the mistake. The correct spelling is внимание and the stress in on the a. You can try dictionaries now (to translate it one needs the context).

ш is pronounced more backward - not with the tip of the tongue but with its middle ( or back-middle?) part, against the hard palate.
щ - with the tip of the tip of the tonue at alveolar ridge.

-how to pronounce ть. I have heard tsy, tsye, and ty from different places
Different places of what? Palatalized consonants like in -ть- are pronounced with tip of the tongue against alveolar ridge and the part right after the tip pressed against alveolar ridge too.

-Sound that й makes. Is it e (long, just condensed) or oi
In the beginning of the syllable ( like йод ) it is like 'y' in 'young' or like. In the terminal position, in the endings like -ой, it's like in 'boy'

    -How do you pronounce и
    Stresssed or unstressed?
Russian is tough, let’s go shopping!

    A few resources

    Hi Unrest,

I recommend Daphne West's book called (something like) teach Yourself to Read Russian. (Odd, I can remember the author but not the title.)

Also I recently recommended this free video which teaches the alphabet in new way. Check it out...

It's rather interesting idea especially with Russian signs reading. Something like this I do in foreign countries. I try to read signs with International words. It very useful in all countries except Arabic countries and even Finland at first time (where International words strongly mutated BANK - PANKKI)
