    true story

Yesterday, picking my kids from summer school..
My daughter says: (sorry, she says it in Russian)
"Я сегодня познакомилась с мальчиком. Мы с ним будем мириться."
After short questionning on what she meant by that, I discovered that they are going to be married. She is almost 5, by the way.

Your daughter is almost 5, and she speaks English and Russian??? WOW!!!!
I have been meaning to ask you, (sorry if you already answered this, I couldn't find it...) Did you adopt a Russian girl, or are you a native Russian living in Kansas City?

Linguistic interference. I always enjoy this wonderful phenomenon. Thanks for the story!

All multi-lingual young kids will mix up words, I think around 6-7 they start to manage to speak two languages without mistakes...

The smartest kid I ever met was my niece. She can read and write and speak fluently in English, she can do all kids of addition and subtraction, and she speaks near fluent Japanese.
    She is 4 years old.

Sorry, CTPEKO3A, I didn't get it - where's the interference in the phrase мы с ним будем мириться? Either I'm thick or there's none. мириться could hardly have been brought on by "to get married" - the words sound very different (as different as "samizdat" and "chicken run") and mean totally different things. Where's the interference in that, pray tell me. Now, when someone says "magazine" when he means "shop", that's interference. Мириться and get married ain't. Or did she say мэридся? Now, that would've been a different story. (But I must say мэридся sounds kinda ugly)

    Dear VendingMashine,

Have you ever heard kids talking? They not really pronounce words proper yet (especially at the age of 4). Girls have intention to speak softly. So, the word "marry" in the fraze "he will marry me" sounds pretty close to "мири". Making verb out of it, using her best knowledge and ability, gave a result of "мирить". I found that amusing. May be it's just because everything my kids are doing is amusing to me..

And by the way - my son often use your other example of "magazine - shop". I don't think it's funny, because people don't get what he is trying to say.

Two guys are in a lifeboat shipwrecked. One guy finds a bottle floating in the water. He rubs it and a genie comes out and tells him, "For releasing me I grant you one wish."
The guy, without even thinking says, "Turn this ocean into beer."
As the ocean is turning into the best tasting beer in the world the other guy goes, "You idiot, now we'll have to pee in the boat."

It gets harder to tell after the first few beers.

    Too long Nope.

As a matter of fact, there's no differnce. It's all about packages.

You're forgetting that when you signed up, you accepted certain agreements before it would let you. One of those agreements is that by posting, you're consenting to us being able to totally change your thread from an innocent story to beer and pee jokes!!!
I think MasterAdmin personally added that one in!

Was I supposed to read that stuff when signed in?
    OOPS, I didn't.
I guess I don't have anyone to blame for that but me...

That is called highjacking a thread and is fairly common, especially when someone leaves a door open.

    Can we say 'threadjacking'?
