No, it would not. There is still plenty of homophobia in America too. Only 19 states and the District of Columbia have legalized same-sex marriage.
The same is in the EU - "Luxembourg will be the ninth EU member state to introduce same-sex marriage, following legislation in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Denmark, France and the UK."
