    Possessive Question: Possessives as Adjectives?

    Hello,
I was wondering if someone could tell me how to write this properly in Russian.

    The woman's car
    The woman's letter
    The woman's brother

    The man's car
    The man's letter
    The woman's brother

Also, the plural of each one please.

Do you have to do these using est? I am thinking that one could form the words man and woman as adjectives. Am I thinking correctly?

I will place the plural version after each first translation. I will use plural for the possessive noun.

You don't need to form the words man and woman as adjectives. Instead of this you need to put them in the genitive.

    The genitive indicates possession.

You shouldn't use "есть". You sort of use "of" but it's not translated. You just put the possessive noun in the genitive instead. The car of a woman... The letter of men... etc.

    The woman's car
    Машина женщины. (woman's)
    Машина женщин. (women's)

    The woman's letter
    Письмо женщины.
    Письмо женщин.

    The woman's brother
    Брат женщины.
    Брат женщин.

    The man's car
    Машина мужчины.
    Машины мужчин.

    The man's letter
    Письмо мужчины.
    Письмо мужчин.

    The woman's brother
    Брат женщины.
    Брат женщин.

    Sorry, but this is incorrect.

Машина женщин means "The women's car"
Машины женщин means "The women's cars"

In both cases, you have the "women's" in the plural.

"The woman's car" would be машина женщины"THe women's car" would be машина женщин
