No they can't (unless I'm mistaken, нечто must always be used with the infinitive of a verb; нечто знать is possible, but not нечто знаю).
Are you sure??? I find examples in Google and Yandex with this construction... what does the natives say?[/quote:2zof6duv]
You'll also find 649,000 hits for "strategery" -- that doesn't make it right. But, of course, I will defer to those native speakers who actually know what the heck they're talking about.
Заранее благодарю всех за исправление ошибок в моём русском.

As far as I'm aware, as Barmy said,

    Нечего знать
    Я ничего не знаю

    Нечего is used with infinitives.

"Я знаю нечто" is correct. It means "I know something".

I've always heard "домашнее задание" also -- which doesn't mean your take is wrong, but it's probably better to say д.з.

No. I am right and the native Russian-speakers are wrong. I decree myself, as Tsar and Almighty Overlord of Canadia, to be correct. Also, now, Pi = 4.5 and pigs can fly. That is all.

I know that you are lying. Strom Thurmond is dead, and with him his pretty little title. Mwahahaha. Oh wait you said United Stats. Now I'm quaking in my boots, because you might shoot off Barry Bond's batting average in 1987 or the number touchdowns Jerry Rice scored in 1991!

I am willing to stake my life on fact that the position of President pro tempore does NOT exist in the United Stats. :P
