Ах, распрекрасный Поттер! As in Harry Potter. In English one would not write "very beautiful" or even "beautiful" about a male in this context, unless it was satirical.
A woman who is physically attractive can be described as "beautiful", but a man is "handsome".
A man can be described as a "beautiful person" based on quality of his character, etc.
Yes, it is a mildly sexist distinction. I would have written: "Ah, (wonderful, magnificent, marvelous, brilliant) Potter!
DO IT YOURSELF!
But распрекрасный IS satirical. I haven't heard it in any other sense except lyrics or songs. Распрекрасный Поттер - you can say that in Russian - and nobody will say you're sexist. It sounds satirically. Applying to Potter it sounds perfectly fine. Gorlum from Lord of the Rings pops into my mind as well.Originally Posted by Siriusly

I didn't know that. I've seen his name written in English but didn't pay attention. I've read the Russian translation with the name ГорлумOriginally Posted by Scorpio
