Thread: translation of some questions, please...

Hello!

a couple of questions today for a Siberian Princess :

"What would be your reaction if you saw a young man reading the same book as you on the bus?"

"Do you consider yourself a Library cat? How often do you go to your local library?"

"Did you have a great summer? Anything memorable?"

Before I translate I have to say that the phrase 'library cat' is not used in Russian, so it shall be translated otherwise:

"What would be your reaction if you saw a young man reading the same book as you on the bus?" - Как бы ты отреагировала, если бы увидела в автобусе молодого человека, который читает ту же самую книгу, что и ты?

"Do you consider yourself a Library cat? How often do you go to your local library?" - Считаешь ли ты себя заядлым читателем? Как часто ты ходишь в местную библиотеку?

"Did you have a great summer? Anything memorable?" - Ты хорошо провела лето? Что-нибудь запомнилось?

many thanks for the translations alexsms - 'library cat' is a typical English expression and each language has their own version for the same meaning - thanks for the Russian one

bibliotechnaya krisa (rat) - somewhat negative

If you need a metaphor: "Книжный червь" - "Bookworm"

Apparently, the expression "library cat" in English often has a completely literal meaning -- кошка, живущая в библиотеке! The problem of mice and rats destroying books (either to get paper for their nests, or to eat the glue) is a very ancient one, so cats were traditionally welcomed to live in libraries.

So they are mice and rats who in fact aspire to books. Cats are used to restrict access to the literature only.
