Translate this to russian??

Hi guys,

I just started learning Russian this week (using Pimsleur and someother audio/book stuff)

I say "there is no spoon" to my apprentice at work when he tells me he can't do something. is it possible to translate it to Russian and it still have the same meaning?

This is it.

You can say also:

На самом деле нет никакой ложки.
Всё дело в том, что нет никакой ложки.

yeah it's from the matrix, i tend to use it a fair bit.

thanks Leof, so it translates to 'there is no spoon what so ever?'

is there a more literal meaning, maybe not the actual translation of the saying but the meaning behind it?

In this cotext I'd say "Никакой ложки нет".

Also is possible:
Ложки не существует.
Никакой ложки не существует.

well, I understand the meaning like this:

the spoon actually exists in your imagination\fears\consciousness.

Which will be:

Ложка существует лишь в твоём воображении.
Ложка - это лишь то, что ты себе представляешь.

Matrix isn't the film one can fully understand.

I thing many scenes in the film do not have any sense, they hide its absense by the difficult to understand words (many people do that).

So we try to find the hidden sense, but there is no spoon in this film.

I can imagine, what is the idea of the "spoon dialogue", but it seems I can tell it only smoking an indean mushroom, and I do not smoke them.

I am sure your friend knows the Matrix film and will understand your thought as deep as you understand it watching the movie.

yes he does understand it as i do, me telling him theres nothing he can't do that i can do - it is his head stopping him doing it.

If you are quoting from a movie, you should use the same words the Russian version of the movie uses, or else you lose the context.

You want to say "there is no spoon" so that people associate it with the whole mythology of the Matrix universe, right?

I would use what wanja suggested then: "Ложки нет." (Assuming he remembers the quote exactly as it was said in the movie.)

Since you like the Matrix and are learning Russian, why not obtain a good Russian dub and use for language practice? I did that, but it's important that you pick a movie that you can watch over and over again. Of course, even boring movies can become interesting if they are in a foreign language.

I'm going through the lessons and giving myself some reading, but it's all new.
the main reason i want this translated is because its something i say all the time and i was curious if it actually would translate over with the same meaning.
