    Нахожусь дома.

When I traslate this using the online translator - it says "There are houses" - since this is all that was in the sentence-its makes no sense to me? I'd really appreciate if some could give me their take on this?
    Thank you so much.

    One Chicagoan to anoder:

You mean "I am at home"?

Your sentence is probably equivalent ta "I find myself [am located] at home." which are equally odd-sounding, so no wonder da translator choked on it.

If ya wanna say "I'm at home" it's я [сижу/сейчас] дома. or som'n like dat.

Accordin ta Lingvo, находиться doesn't just mean "be at":

    находиться
I - находиться; - найтись 1) be found, turn up не найдется ли у вас? — do you happen to have?; can you spare? 2) ( не теряться, соображать ) find the right word to say он всегда найдется — he is never at a loss он нашелся, что ответить — he was quick to answer

II ( пребывать )be; be situated / located; be contained in, be positioned on находиться в отчаянном положении — to be in desperate straits находиться в состоянии войны (с кем-л.) — to be at war (with) находиться в чьем-л. пользовании — to be in smb.'s use находиться под впечатлением чего-л. — to be impressed by smth. находиться под паром — to lie fallow находиться под следствием — to be under examination находиться в противоречии — (с кем-л. / чем-л.) to contradict, to be at variance (with), to conflict (with), to be in contrast (with), to be conflict (with) находиться в пути — to be on one's way, to be en route находиться в воздухе — (о самолете и т.п.) to be airborne / aloft

III ; ( много ходить ) walk for a long time; tire oneself by walking ( устать )

You meant it ta be number II, but you can see dat, in da sense a location, dat meanin is more metaphorical dan realistic.

Great weather down here in NC, was 60 today. You guys all freezin yer butts off up dere?

My online translator says "I am home".

I cannot possibly understand how an online translator can translate this to "There are houses"? Which translator do you use?

It has seen the adverb дома as the noun дома (which is the nominative plural of дом)

Taking this as a noun in the nominative, it must be the subject so the translator is expecting a third person verb, so it thinks нахожусь is wrong and should be находятся

Находятся дома = there are houses e.g.

На улице находятся дома. But that sounds a bit shite.
