Да, но, может быть, дело даже не в языке, но в русской культуре, в людях.

    No..

    засада - it's ambush

And when you say "засада" about something (it's like slang) it's meaning like "to be ambushed" => something very hard, unpleasant

"засадный" - people don't say this way.. but it's possible to understand

I hope I was explain it understandably

Almost the same was what I heard from one of the Americans about English phrasal books.

Thought it was a pretty language and started out trying to learn it for background to a novel I'm writing. Then I decided that it would be interesting to figure out what my Russian friends were talking about and things sort of went from there. Still quite the beginner though.

What other languages were you offered in high school? (I'm assuming you're talking about high school, because university wouldn't force you to take something outside of your program).

We are only offered French and Italian here.

I said "other" because a bunch of the reasons apply to me. I really like learning other languages, but had no plans to learn Russian until I met my boyfriend! He's Russian and hearing him speak it with his family all the time made me interested. So now I take it at school and I love it! (Although I'm still REALLY bad at it... )

This was basically my reason too. Met this Ukrainian computer geek\film sputtering inventor dude who said that if I wanted to understand him I'd have to learn Russian. So I thought I'd try.

ANyway, I know I blew it with him, but I'm still interested in the language. Who knows, I just may meet another Ukrainian geek who pushes all my buttons the way Pavel did.....sigh

Are you a computer or a robot? We geeks can only push those kinds of buttons.

Ukrainian geeks are not quite like American geeks, blackster!

The difference is in the buttons, rather than the geeks.

I didn't see a voting option for "I want to import my Russian brides with less difficulty." Hmm...that's an oversight on your part, MasterAdmin...
Заранее благодарю всех за исправление ошибок в моём русском.

I have been learning Russian over than 20 years and I find it very interesting. If I didn't know Russian, I wouldn't interact and communicate with my Pals!!! They know nothing but Russian and this is an obstacle in improving my English!!! But this fomum give me one of the general oportunities of practicing in English!!! I like it very much!!!
