    Meaning of the Gesture...

Does anyone know what it means when a person exposes his arm straight and crosses his middle and ring fingers? Looks snobbish and vulgar.

No. When you cross those fingers usually it means:
    a. crossing them for luck
    b. crossing them to NOT make an oath hold (usually behind your back so the other person can't see. e.g.: I "promise" you that I won't tell a secret of yours, but my crossing my fingers "cancels" it. I don't know where this came from; it's pretty juvenile)
    c. as part of an expression of intimacy (I cross my fingers and say "Bob and Becky have been dating since sixth grade -- they're like this [showing the crossed fingers])

To my surprise, I've thought you cross your index finger with your middle finger to show that.

It's some sort of gang symbol. Like "East-Side". His hand probably makes an E shape.

I've always thought it stands for "w", as in West side.

If you turn a W on it's side you get an E.

i guess both, depending on how you turn the hand.

If you extend your arm and split your middle finger and ring finger and make a "V", it is a Vulcan sign for "live long and prosper".

Yep. I didn't read it closely enough -- my explanations are indeed for the index and middle fingers.

I think that's the point. It's in the Ali G film. I don't think people really use it, do they? Not many gangs around my way .
