My post has been gone so I'll repeat:
Actually it's quite simple - похваляться харчами means to vomit, to throw up
(when you do that you're actually showing everyone what food you had been eating)
Send me a PM if you need me.

А ещё на эту тему говорят:
    "Кормить Ихтиандра"
    "Ехать в Ригу"
    "Пугать унитаз"
    "Говорить по фаянсовому телефону"

А вот угадайте, что имел в виду один мой знакомый, который сказал: "Я уж думал, что гол забил, но оказалось, что в штангу..."

В общем-то так и есть. Он хотел сказать, что едва не подумал, что одна знакомая от него забеременела.

    Brilliant!

(makes me think of a Danish idiom - spille paa glastrompet - ("playing the glass trumpet"), which means drinking from the bottle )

Great thread, this. I think there's nothing stupid about idioms at all - crazy sometimes, yes, but it's a colourful means of expression, creative use of language.

    Could you elaborate that?
"To have ten thumbs" or "to be all thumbs" means to be very unhandy - and admittedly, it doesn't have a lot to do with inventing new words, Siriusly was just playing around with language

In the same line, a dancer can have two left feet.......
Ой, голова у меня кружится |-P ...... and my brain hurts too....

I learned this new idiom from Brigada:

У меня рука не поднимится = I can't (do it) (for moral reasons?)
"С чий очи сънувам, чий е този лик обречен?
Смъртен глас ми се причува и отеква с вик далечен
Как да зърна да погледна, чуждий образ да прегърна,
на лицето ми студено грях в надежда да превърна.."

"He has green thumbs/fingers" means "he grows plants very well". Another idiom.
