Здравствулте! "группа, шатия" ( not sure if 'gang' is acceptable regarding people in a Russian forum), I was just wondering how this discussion fits in with the 'Pen-Pals' theme? I thought there may problems communicating to former Curtain zones, ie; .ru, .by ... Fortunately it's just a political rant. Мои девушки can still e-mail/ICQ me and put up with my horrendous Russian, and I, their OK English. WHEW!!!
I'm easily amused late at night...

    question

    Hey guys,
if you ask me Russia is not anymore a democratic country.
The best proof for this is the Yukos-case, don't you think so?
It was broadcasted in the German news, and they said that the chairman of the oil-firm "yukos" was a political enemy of Putin. Due to that Putin searched a reason to put him into jail. Do you guys know something about that? And what actually happened to this man now?
I also heard that the power of the military in Russia increases...I don't think that this is a development, which indicates a democratic system.
It reminds me more on Russia under the tsar before the revolution...

when was Russia a democratic country?

Khordokovsky is in jail right now.

Russia under the tsar before the revolution? What, the power of the military increased at that time too? I thought the military was losing badly to the Germans in WWI (which you should be familiar with )

Do you mean that there is a revolution closing in on Russia? I wouldn't say that. Khodorkovsky was jailed unfairly - there were no proof of his guilt. He was jailed because he dered to challenge Putin. And Putin doesn't like to be qustioned with the issues he couldn't provide answeres for. He was afraid of Khodorkovsky and as far as he doesn't like to surface his weaknesses that was the only way for him. There is an opressive regime in Russia and Putin is regarded as a tsar.
