Thread: Russia builds new iron curtain

Guys, what do you think of current Russia's image? Do you believe it goes towards democracy? For those eager to discuss what it looks like from inside and outside Russia...

I think it is taking babysteps towards democracy... I am just very curious to see who comes after Putin, if anyone at all!

I doubt Putin will change the constitution to try and make a third term. He can however be re-elected for another two years after sitting out one term.

Why to wait for so long? He will simply set a "technical" president, as Eltsyn used to do with PMs, say, for two months. Then this "technical" president will retire, and... here we are! Putin is a head of modern Russian mafia! Once get involved in state's affairs he will never give it up. I don't belive in Russian democracy. It is absolutely clear that the majority of Russia's pepople even don't need it! I'm just anxious what will be to those who don't approve of Putin's regime... Immigration? Or GULAG and new KGB-FSB repression?

Calm down man. First, why do you need "democracy"? What do you mean using this word? Second, are your rights curtailed now? Aren't you allowed to live in any place here in Russia, to leave Russia, to start buisness to get married to grow children...and so on and so forth?

I don't want to be allowed to... People DESERVE to have a right to, not TO BE ALLOWED to. Putin IS serving ME (he is elected, not crowned), NOT ME SERVING HIM. Think about it, man! I am NOT allowed to start any fairly serious business unless I joined pro-Putin party (as it used to be in the USSR). I'm afraid of my children might got killed in meaningless war for Putin regime in Chechnya. Drugs, AIDS, 59 year-life expectancy for Russian man... IS THAT WHAT YOU STAND FOR, KID?
