Верно замечено насчет interesting — я не обратил внимания .

Насчёт are/is: is — правильно. (Слово news чаще используется с глаголами в ед. числе, но не будет большой ошибкой использовать и множественное, если контекст это допускает).
    А запятые всё-таки не нужны .

Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary says:
    news , n. (usually used with a sing. v.)

    Marriam-Webster's Unabridged Dictionary says:
    news
Function:noun plural but singular or plural in construction

An example from Answers.com: "Newspapers still print occasional news satire features, in particular on April Fool's Day (April 1st). These news are specifically identified somewhere in the paper or in the next day as a joke."
News is used with a plural verb here, because it refers to multiple, different news items published in different papers.

ну, может, тогда лучше было бы сказать так:

Новость, которую я собираюсь вам сообщить, очень интересна(я) - the news I'm going to tell you is very interesting.

Новости, которые я собираюсь вам сообщить, очень интересны(е) -
the news I'm going to tell you are very interesting.

    Я так думаю.

I knew it! As long as I make a specific statement, it turns out to be not true, or at least not entirely correct... sigh...

Apparently Leof's sentences are entirely correct!

Согласна, news в английском языке - неисчисляемое (вот как слово milk) существительное, поэтому глагол при нём будет всегда в единственном числе. Точно так же и advice (совет). Поэтому и существует выражение a piece of advice, например. Для тех, у кого родной язык - русский, это звучит поначалу странно, мы-то можем посчитать и новости, и советы. Так что лучше всего заглянуть в грамматический справочник и такие слова выучить наизусть ( If only I would follow my own advice ))).

    That's not strictly true.

Advice is a singular noun yes.

But news is in form a plural noun. It came from the Middle English word Newes (plural of Newe) which means "new things, tidings". Originally it would have been used with a plural, but over time it has been come to be a like singular collective noun.

Over here on our side of the pond ...

"News" is almost always singular. At least, in common usage.

Now, if you say, "the news items are/were blah," then, yeah, "items" is plural. But the question people ask: "What's the news?", meaning, "What is (singular) the news?"

BTW, the phrase, "What is the news from Timbuktu?" could also be written, "What news from Timbuktu?"

"News" as plural -- nope, can't easily think of any case where I'd hear it. If you asked, "What's the news?", and the answer was plural, you'd be far more likely to say, "Well, there are several items," and leave off "news" entirely.

"Last night I watched the news from Washington (the capital)
The Russians escaped while we weren't watching them (like Russians will)
Now we've got all this room,
    We've even got the moon,
And I hear the USSR will be open soon ...
    As vacation land for --
    Lawyers In Love."

    Jackson Browne, "Lawyers in Love"

Always do right. This will gratify some people, and astonish the rest.
    -- Mark Twain
