Запятые не нужны.
по-моему, там должно стоять are, а не is...Quote:

А запятые всё-таки не нужны :).
А разве можно использовать слово news во мн.ч?Quote:

what is the news from Angola?
is this news old?
Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary says:
news , n. (usually used with a sing. v.)
Marriam-Webster's Unabridged Dictionary says:
news
Function:noun plural but singular or plural in construction
An example from Answers.com: "Newspapers still print occasional news satire features, in particular on April Fool's Day (April 1st). These news are specifically identified somewhere in the paper or in the next day as a joke."
News is used with a plural verb here, because it refers to multiple, different news items published in different papers.
ну, может, тогда лучше было бы сказать так:
Новость, которую я собираюсь вам сообщить, очень интересна(я) - the news I'm going to tell you is very interesting.
Новости, которые я собираюсь вам сообщить, очень интересны(е) -
the news I'm going to tell you are very interesting.
:?:
Или я ошибаюсь? :roll:Quote:

Apparently Leof's sentences are entirely correct!
It may be correct but it sounds really weird and you'll get funny looks.Quote:

Так что лучше всего заглянуть в грамматический справочник и такие слова выучить наизусть ( If only I would follow my own advice ))).
That's not strictly true.Quote:

"News" is almost always singular. At least, in common usage.
Now, if you say, "the news items are/were blah," then, yeah, "items" is plural. But the question people ask: "What's the news?", meaning, "What is (singular) the news?"
BTW, the phrase, "What is the news from Timbuktu?" could also be written, "What news from Timbuktu?"
"News" as plural -- nope, can't easily think of any case where I'd hear it. If you asked, "What's the news?", and the answer was plural, you'd be far more likely to say, "Well, there are several items," and leave off "news" entirely.
