    Two Sentences

Which sentance of these two is correct?

    1. We are so accustomed to the melancholy in our area that we disregard others' living standarts.

    2. One of the ideals held so proudly by the citizens of the United Stated is the concept of protection and freedom to initiatives who choose to embrace unpopular ideas.

I have a feeling that second one is wrong. I don't know why.
Please, can You correct, if I have made mistakes.

The first sentence is technically correct apart from spelling of the last word which should be standards.
The second makes little sense, There is a typo: should be United States. Commas would be useful to seperate out the clause "held by the citizens of the United States. The bit that doesn't work is "to initiatives".
I'm not sure what the writer intends to convey, but the use of who implies persons not things choose to embrace unpopular ideas. Perhaps therefore the word "inhabitants" or "those" was intended? In that case, "to" should be replaced with "of".
    Neither sentence is very elegant.
Personally I would say "disregard the living standards of others".

Is that what you meant? I'm not sure...

This is how I would say it.

    2. One of the ideals held so proudly by the citizens of the United States is the concept of protection and freedom for initiatives that embrace unpopular ideas.
Let me be a free man, free to travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade where I choose, free to choose my own teachers, free to follow the religion of my fathers, free to talk, think and act for myself. - Chief Joseph, Nez Perce
