Need some help: trying to read a book :)

Help me please. I need vivid natural and correct translations.
    1) effort of achievement
    2) to sort through the nibble
    3) pontil rod

I'll give it a shot, but the accuracy of the translation you have to decide

    1) effort of achievement

    2) to sort through the nibble
Sort through the NIBBLE? I don't think nibble is a noun. Never heard of it!

    3) pontil rod
pontil rod = punty - a metal rod on which the molten glass is handled in glassmaking.

понтия is what multitran is giving me...

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, kalinka_vinnie.
Nibble has meaning "осторожная попытка; прощупывание почвы; маленький кусочек", but it still confuses me.
What's about pontil rod - it's very close to what I thought ("кочерга"). Though I never heard a word "понтия" before. I didn't find it in my explanatory dictionary, but my encyclopedia says that this is a "sea goddess".

Hmm понтия is a greek mythological sea goddess! Well, better use your word then, to avoid confusion

Can you provide some more nibble context? "To sort through the nibble" is just not making sense to me.

The girl has serious problem and doesn't know what to do.

"This was like a natural disaster, an earthquake. It had hit her without warning. And now, trying to sort through the nibble, she had no idea how to begin to repair the damage."

Are you sure it isn't a typo and should be "trying to sort through the rubble" That makes ALOT more sense

    More questions.

    1) "Running usually cured just about anything that ailed Meg. A new business presentation that wasn't coming together, say, or a morning alone after another disappointing date, ...."

    2) Give Meg Hardwick a challenge—as any one of her fashion accounts would attest—and she would wrestle it to the ground and have it pinned in no time.
    (especially marked parts).

that wasn't coming together means that wasn't being successfully completed

I need more information to help with the "fashion account" thing. I'm not sure what is meant myself

As for the second thing, they are using "pinned" to mean "accomplish" in this sense, because of the wrestling comment. Basically, it means if you give her a challenge, she will work hard to accomplish it.

She is an owner of the ad agency. That's all we know about her work, and it's never mentioned she concerned with fashion industry.

Нельзя ли тогда "Give Meg Hardwick a challenge—as anyone of her fashion accounts would attest —and she would wrestle it to the ground and have it pinned in no time."

    I'd say "могли бы угрожать".
