    Does this make sense without translating back into Russian?

    ...in Russia developers are still working for wonder.
    With translating into russian and guessing the meaning, it probably means the following: (select to show)

    Working for wonder - work for menial wage but on interesting project
    Russian is tough, let’s go shopping!

    "Working for wonder" doesn't make any sense.

    I can't think of a short English phrase which means the same thing. Sometimes we say "he wasn't in it for the money", but that doesn't mean someone is not getting paid necessarily.
