    had no inside into

Help me please to understand the marked part:
Kennedy, all right JFK himself. When he was in office, he
stood before the world and promised them a man on the moon within
10 years. Thing is nobody had started working on a space program at
that point. JFK had no data to back up his claims, no inside into the
    practicality of space travel.
What does it mean "JFK had no inside into the practicality of space travel"?

    It's a mistake.
'Inside' should almost certainly read 'insight'.

Having listened to that sound clip, he definitely says "inside". But, just listening to his voice the man sounds kind of stupid. I think that it should be "insight", because inside doesn't make much sense, altough, i guess you could get away with saying it. SO basically he says

"Jack had no informtion to back back up his plan, he had no idea what space travel was about" he had no knowledge inside of the field of space travel. he basically just said let's go, without thinking about it too much

Thank you Dogboy! Good guess - this guy is really such a jerk It's Randal from Kevin Smith movies "Clerks", "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back". And this was a part of the dialogue from "The Flying Car". Here you can download the video: http://www.viewaskew.com/tv/leno/flyingcar.html. It's pretty funny. And here you can see the whole transcript: http://www.viewaskew.com/newboard/messages364/1226.html.

By the way, I always thought that the first name of JFK is John...

He is definitely saying "insight", it's just the way he talks. There is no home-grown American who would make a mistake like "he had no inside into." Now I don't know how y'all talk up in Seattle, but down here we actually have a similiar way of pronouncing "t" in this case - something that should be a "t" sounds more like a "d", especially before a vowel sound. I've recorded some sound clips of me talking normally:

    1. We need some light in here!
    http://www.freewebs.com/pravit/lightinhere.wav
    2. Could you give me a glass of water?
    http://www.freewebs.com/pravit/glassofwater.wav
    3. I saw him dancing at a playground.
    http://www.freewebs.com/pravit/dancing.wav
    4. She's too arty for me.
    http://www.freewebs.com/pravit/arty.wav
    5. I saw a car accident at an intersection back there.
    http://www.freewebs.com/pravit/sawacar.wav

Now, wouldn't you say I sound like a true good, God-fearin' 'merican?

Actually, I had fun doing this. Any more Russians(or Americans with weird accents) who would like me to record good ol' American pronunciation?

EDIT: JFK is John F. Kennedy. Another one is FDR(Franklin Delano Roosevelt).

That's weird, to hear you talking... I always imagined you had a far nerdier voice. You know, maybe if I didn't know your background, I wouldn't have noticed, but for some reason the first two sentences have quite a distinct (relatively) Asian ring to them. Maybe I should do some myself as well, so you know how Devonshire British people who were raised in Holland sound when talking with a gay German accent.

An Asian ring? In what way? That's weird, because I don't speak any Asian languages fluently, English is my mother tongue. Did you mean an Asian accent(as if an Asian language was my mother tongue) or that children of Asian immigrants talk a certain way? Perhaps you mean the way Asians living in Holland talk. Odd.

EDIT: Oh, you probably mean an Asian ring sort of like Hispanics have a Hispanic ring even if they don't speak Spanish. Aha.

Thank you Pravit! I've got it. It's the way he talks. Like in your fourth clip where arty sounds like [ardi].

Yes, or for example "I saw a car accidend a'an innersection back there."

EDIT: Hey Jasper, how do you pronounce "water"? Do you really say "wah-ter"? I can't fathom it. You should record some stuff for us. I want to hear Lindzi's voice too. She said she had a strange accent.

Yes, I've listened to all of them, but in the fourth clip it's the most obvious.

Alas that I do not have a microphone, and cannot provide you with the amusement of hearing my GORGEOUS accent.

I sound like a Fargo native who has suffered a stroke. Seriously. There's no need to inflict that on the world.

No no. He says INSIDE. I know it doesn't make sense but that's what he says. Unless he has a speach problem ! The T on insite sounds nothing like that D on inside. insite sounds like "Night" or "fight". Maybe he just bit his tongue while saying the T exessivly hard, but i'll be dammed, he says inside. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry, sobakitchka, but it really does sound like an accented pronunciation of "insight" to me. I say it very much the way he says it, actually, although that is no ringing endorsement. I suspect that Randall (who is, incidentally, my soulmate) is simply a bit too mush-mouthed for his own good.

I also listened to that file and definitely hear "insight". Btw, wouldn't the stress have been on the last syllable had it been "inside" (while here it's definitely on the first one)?
