    Could it be a mistake?

    Hello, friends.
    Here is a sentence.

"Acclaimed the Messiah by no less an authority than Rabbi Akiva, his doomed revolt against Rome resulted in the virtual extintion of Jewish life in the Holy Land"

In teh main sentence the subject is "his doomed revolt".

Iin the subordinative sentence -- "he"

IMHO the subject should be the same.

Breaking this compound sentence into two simpler sentences demonstrates why we use 'he' in the first part and 'his' in the second.

"(He was) acclaimed the Messiah by no less an authority than Rabbi Akiva."

"His doomed revolt against Rome resulted in the virtual extintion of Jewish life in the Holy Land."

    Hope this helps,

    Joe
