Russian version of 'Night Watch' on DVD?

(hope this is the right section of the forum for this)

Hi guys, although i've not posted on this forum yet i've been lurking for quite some time, and have found this a fantastic resource and way to keep my Russian exposure up. I'm not at a level good enough to converse in Russian yet, but when i am i will be sure to become a regular visitor on here!

In the meantime, i have a question some of you might be able to help with. I am a big fan of the Russian film released early this year - Ночной дозор (Night Watch). I've got the UK release, which i can watch with the Russian audio fine. However, i know that the Russian release had different music, lots of scenes that were cut in the International releases, and a different tv clip where ours had 'Buffy'.

Could anybody here recommend a website where i can buy the Russian version, and have it shipped to the UK? Because i can't read enough Russian yet, i can't do my normal research into different online Russian stores, to ensure i am buying with a reliable company. Advice and recs would be much appreciated (and of course, feel free to point out if i am missing something blindingly obvious, like some UK store is offering the Russian release too!).

    Thanks all.

EDIT:crikey, i'd forgotten i'd set up a signature line months ago when i first joined. it took me by surprise, i thought "who the hell added a signature to my post??!"

    Thanks for the welcome!

That DVD store looks great, i know i am going to be ordering tons of stuff from there, thanks for the link!
However, i am not sure that is the Russian release... it looks like it could still be the American version? I will email the store to see whether they can tell me either way for sure.

Nope, they emailed back (good customer service!) and said they used to carry the Russian release, but now only carry the American release. They couldn't advise where i could find the Russian release either.

    Anybody have any other ideas?

No problem, although i only ever use it as a last resort, and i think i will do that in this situation too. It would be stuck on my comp, as i have no dvd burner, and i'd love to have the cover art... so i think i'll persevere and try to hunt down the official Russian release. Thank you very much though, perhaps in a few weeks when i get deserate i'll get back to you!

I believe there's a boxed version available in the UK that comes with the complete, original Russian theatrical release. Not sure whether that differs from any 'vanilla' version.

Really? See, i shall have to go check my dvd now, because i have the UK dvd and i was under the impression it didn't have this... but i've not actually searched the disc thoroughly, i just read stuff on the net recently about the Russian release being different from the Fox release, and figured it wasn't on mine.
... I've just checked the amazon listing for the dvd i have, and see that it lists it as having 'Night Watch Movie Theatrical Version Including Original Subtitles'. I wonder if this is it! God, i shall be a bit peeved with myself if i was blind enough not to see it was on the disc i already had! Lol.
Not entirely sure though, as i wouldn't think the Russian theatrical release would *need* subtitles.

Okay, i'm going to check my DVD tonight, to see whether this is the case.

    Thanks!

    Found Russian Release!

Update! A very friendly and helpful fellow called Joel Pearce who reviews over at DVDVerdict.com has just replied to my email and pointed me towards alldvd.ca who list the russian releases, and Day Watch is out already!! I had NO idea, so i'm buying both versions pronto. Hooray!

You can find the Russian release of Night Watch here: http://alldvd.ca/Product/DvdDetail.aspx?ProductID=22176

Thanks for all the help everyone.

pheral, if you so fond of the movie, you should read the original Sergey Lukjanenko's novel. Than I saw the movie, I was really disapointed by it, comparing to the book the movie is too boring and stupid. The second movie, Day Watch, is little better, but still not so good. Besides, there are four novels from that siquel written already: Night Watch, Day Watch, Twilight Watch (Сумеречный Дозор) and The Last Watch (Последний Дозор).
Unfortunately, I doubt that there are released English translations ...

Thanks Basil77, i'd know there were novels, but hadn't had a prompt or recommendation from anyone to read them.
I'm a very visual person however, the thing i adore about film is the images, the freezeframes, the beauty of single moments. I'm a photographer, so i guess it translates from that, too.

But while the films get priority for me, i would love to read the books someday, and see how the author envisaged his own world and tale. Thanks for the recommendation, i'm going to hunt out the books at amazon and prime myself for maybe buying them someday.

In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
