Yes - you can buy guns at Wal-Mart but only hunting rifles not handguns or pistols.

As far as the average American owning guns it really depends on where you live. Most people in the city areas are dead set against gun ownership. People who live more in the country (so to say) are more prone to gun ownership. Of course there are big exceptions to this.

Actually gun ownership is a hotly debated political issue here. Politically speaking usually liberals are anti-gun ownership and conservatives are usually pro-gun ownership. Again this does vary.
