    Помогите русскому студенту с переводом

Господа иностранцы! Примените свои навыки русского языка на практике!!! Помогите, пожалуйста, мне перевести на русский язык следующее предложение:

A vaguely related point is that using the migrant organization as points of entry to research on transnational political practices may give an awry understanding of the degree of engagement within the migrant group as a whole with totalitarian regimes, but sometimes such intervention may hamper rather than bridge disputes in homeland politics

Вдобавок an awry understanding неправильно. Мы так не говорим, т.к. awry - наречие. Лучше a skewed understanding или что-то в этом роде.

For some reason I get the feeling a non-native English speaker wrote that. I mean, we're capable of some pretty bad things, but I haven't seen anything that bad in a long time.

That's a tough call Pravit ... I would tend to take the other side of the bet, although I'm not a gambling man
The thing that really jumps out is the word "awry" which is used in a highly atypical (some may say totally incorrect) way. The adjective 'awry' is only ever used predicatively in my experience - you never have an "awry something" - something is awry, or more likely it goes awry.
The other nightmarish aspects of the sentence, i.e. its structure, could come about in some warped minds quite naturally ... "hamper rather than bridge disputes"

Edit: I just noticed chaika's post about awry. It's not only an adverb, it can also be an adjective. But only predicatively.

I ,personally, have no doubt that this gibberish was written by a non native speaker. First - I can hardly discern any idea behind the words. Second - search for "bridge disputes" on Google gives only 44 instances (out of billions pages? - very weird). And third and most important - the author said it's a course work and having been exposed to Uni education there I throw away any doubt that it was 'created' to artifically harden the student lives and the only purpose of this piece of .. work was to trip students up into low grades by causing them not to translate it but to guess the right answer. The problem of who created it is that he/she can not think in this (English) foreign language. Would be interesting to know the name of the author's Uni.

PS native speaker would do it this way (the translations from English to English will be given at the end of the test time)

As a case in point, other authorities have proposed that slumbering canines are best left in a recumberent position.

It has been positied that a high degree of curiosity proved lethal to a feline..

The resultant experimental data indicate that there is no utility in belaboring a deceased eqine.

Even with the most sophisticated experimental protocol, it is exceedingly unlikely that you can instill in a superannuated canine the capacity to perform novel feats of legerdemain.

Yep. You're right, I'm wrong. I can see it now. "A vaguely related point" was very convincing though .. it just all falls to crap half way through.
