Edit: I got it. There's a singer Alanis Morissette and she sings a song "Ironic"
and "isn't it ironic" is from the lyrics. http://www.reallyrics.com/lyrics/A002200020005.asp

Heh. Yeah, Alanis is lacking in literary knowledge. You COULD come up with contexts in which the situations in the song would be ironic, but it's a stretch. Although I can't come up with an ironic situation for "ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife." Maybe if a guy who made a few million selling, I don't know, asbestos-tainted ginsu knives was attacked in his kitchen by a vengeful cancer victim's brother, and the ginsu knife guy reached into a drawer for something to defend himself, but the drawer was all filled with SPOONS. Plastic picnic ones.Originally Posted by waxwing

yandex.ru gives пустынный район as a synonym for пустыня .. is that wrong?
Btw you're on form there Lindzi with your revenge story .. what's ginsu?
IMHO, it's wrong for this case. You didn't mean a desert in its common meaning, but you wanted to say there are no rains everyday. Also the meaning word is 'район' and the word has strong associations with living blocks and factory areas. That's because 'засушливый' makes it clear and takes off those incorrect thoughts.Originally Posted by waxwing

You are waiting for an event (usually for scheduled event) but it doesn't happen (right on time).

OK and just to proverit':
the first means 'I haven't seen him for a week'. So it means we use vinitelniy padezh for this construction?
and the second means 'I haven't seen him this week'
correct?
