    Consonant clusters

How exactly are they pronounced? I understand the entire cluster has to be either voiced or unvoiced, but I've been unable to get a straight answer on when they're voiced and when they're unvoiced. Anyone care to help?

Well, I was led to believe by my teacher that there are some relatively hard and fast rules about any consonant cluster, something to the effect that if the first consonant in the cluster is voiced, but the consonants succeeding it are written unvoiced (k, p, s, t, f instead of g, b, z, d, v) all are spoken unvoiced, whether or not it's a voiced or unvoiced consonant in writing. Is this the case?

Вроде бы, самый длинный пример -- "взгляд" (все четыре согласных произносятся).
    Другой такой пример: "встреча".
В "здравствуйте" первая "в" не произносится.

    Looks like yes.

And note that (like on the first link in that topic ) consonant cluster may be split between two words, and still obey this law. Also if the first consonant is devoiced, and second is voiced in 2-consonant cluster,
first become voiced is second is e.g 'ж'. ( отжим ) and not become voiced
    in e.g. "в" or 'р' ( отвал )

Some consonants are voice (pronounced with vibrating vocal chors), these are:

    Б, В, Г, Д, Ж, З, М, Н, Л.

    All other consonants are voiceless.

Furthermore, some letters form voiced/voiceless paris. They are pronounced at the same place in the mouth and with the same airstream, but voiced consonants have vibrating vocal chords:

    Voiced - Voiceless
    В - Ф
    Б - П
    Д - Т
    Г - К
    Ж - Ш
    З - С

Out of the pairs above, when a voiced consonant comes before voicless consonant or is at the end of the word it is pronounced as its devoiced counterpart:

вперёд is pronounced [фперёт] (because п is voiceless, it causes В to devoice to Ф. Because Д is at the end of the word it devoices to Т)

Смирнов is pronounced [Смирноф] (because В is in the final poisition, it devoices to Ф)

в селе is pronounced [фселе] (because prepositions are pronounced as being attached to the next word and C is voiceless so devoices В to Ф).

The same happens the other way round, that is to say that if a voiceless consonant comes before a voiced consonant, the voiceless consonant is pronounced as its voiced counterpart.

вокзал is pronounced [вогзал] because З is voiced, so it causes the voiceless К to voice to a Г.

(Note that В is the exception and does not cause other consonants to alter their sound. Москва is pronounced as it is spelt.)

In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

Для меня не то же самое. По-моему, это слишком длинное слово, чтобы расслышать в нем это др/тр. А вот сидддррр или ситтттррр - очень хорошо слышно на конце.

Например, слово "октябрь". Его можно произнести так (в речевом потоке):
    Октябырь уж наступил...

    Или можно так:
    Октяпрюш наступил
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
