About LinkBacksIn some words like, АМЕРИКАНСКОГО, the bit which looks like "skogo" is pronounced "skovo". Why is this? And is I am reading a word how am I to know that I need to pronounce it in this way?

Just few threads below in this forum... When "г" is not pronounced "g"
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
As far as I know, historically, sound [г] transformed into [в] when was in the intervocal position (i.e. between two vowels), while one of the vowels should be labial. -ого and -его in adjectives are always read with [в] in the modern literary Russian language.
