Nice article thanks, the only point i desagree with is that they write Americans impose their own model of a state and society order in a foreign country. Think it's not the model that they have themselves, it's the model where they have more rights in a foregin country than its citisens which gives them an opportinity to enrich themselves on account of keeping those contries in total poverty.

You can't fault USA for wanting to style after themselves. I have lived in several supposedly "free" western countries and I can assure you all the the USA actually does have the most freedoms.......still!

    Right now i am in
australia and have noticed a marked decline of freedoms since here last. And, I might add that this saddens me as Australia is my native land.

Are you road-tripping AU right now, or is that just a generic location?

"decline of freedoms" is kind of vague, don't you agree? What is a decline of freedom? How many freedoms are there???

I leave this vague for a reason. The problem I have found with Australians is that you have to have experienced freedon in order to understand what it is. e.g. People who have been cut off from the world and lived isolated with their own customs may think that they are free but in reality live with strick rules of conduct that actually constrict their personal freedoms. If you were to go there and in a day, try to "liberate" them they would throw you out branded as a "heretic" or something.

But I will say that here in Australia since I have been gone I have noticed a severe change and restrictions on doing daily business related to the supposed "threat since 911". Documents are needed for everything now. For instance I can not get a drivers license here because I do not have enough documents certifying who I am, even though I have several passports.

The Australia that I left so many years ago, no longer exists. I am in exile. If you want to know what a real Aussie was like 30 years ago.....come to me.

Yeah well I have sort of been road tripping lately. I don't really have a permanent address. I was up in Mooloolaba in the sub tropics but had to leave so I went on a little road trip through the outback in the red dust country. Camping out! Now I'm on the central NSW coast.

They don't want it; all that they want is that other countries obey the Center that is supposed to be the USA. Behaviour of US people abroad is this: they are fencing all the time. It's not only me, who is a whitness, look at US marins in the Crimea; they are fencing too. Americans, who're living next to me are fencing too. And that is a sort of what: arrogency or cowardice? It doesn't matter, it merely means that they want to dodge dorect dialogs. That's odd.

You find people who are installing toilets threatening? I know that the British are afraid of Polish plumbers, but...
(PS it's marines (with the E), not marins)

If people who are installing toilers are armed... It's really threate.
As you felt yourself, if plumber with gun has come to you?

You really think that some reservists were going to take over Ukraine? Here's a more realistic idea: they were going to stage some exercise, enjoy the sunshine and the beach, and go home with tales of crazy geezers who thought that Tovarishch Stalin was the greatest thing since sliced bread...

I don't think that they want to take over Ukraine. I only have reminded that they had weapon. Would be no weapon than would be no problems.
    IMHO, of course.

Perhaps you should join the new government in Kyiv so you could hammer out a compromise: all marines will carry toilet-plungers while on guard duty.

I don't understand what mishau means about "fencing".

And of course Marines have weapons, they are Marines. The protests weren't anything to do with the weapons, it was just the fact they were American.

By 'fencing" I think Mishau means "never stating their true position on something" ......."talking out of both sides of their heads" ....."not taking sides"........."fence sitting"......."saying one thing one day and then saying another the next day"........"their story changes depending on who they are talking to"..... "ambiguous"...Correct?

    A. I think he means "fencing" in the sense that Russia is being "fenced in" by NATO -- they are being surrounded by an evil alliance based in Belgium.

    B. I don't think it's really that they are American -- not in the sense that it's against Bush, Iraq, War on Terror, McDonalds, or whatever. It's to the fact that these old goats were told for 70 years that NATO was hell-bent on destroying them (partially true in the sense that it was an anti-Soviet body) and now these troops (that aren't ACTUALLY operating under NATO auspices -- it's several NATO countries though) have showed up at a time of intense domestic politicking and under dubious legality (technically Kyiv didn't get the correct approvals to stage the exercises). So it's a matter of "evil math:"
Appearance of Evil, Old Alliance + Evil Yushchenko who has smallpox/cholera/alcoholism/AIDS/monkey-farting-disease/anything but Dioxin poisoning + Stupid/lazy/unpopular officials who can't get the proper approvals + interloping Russian politicians = Anti-"NATO" demonstrations.

By fencing I mean putting barriers on the way to a dialog. They dodge speaking to you in order to understand your position or fond a compromise as if you were deaf and dumb or too idiotic to come down to talk to you. A good example may be their comments on absence of WMT in Iraq.
