Yeah, as logical as bringing up about a few hundreds of other names. So why Lenin?Originally Posted by laxxy

I don't think many people believe there is such a thing as an ultimate evil, there is no upper bound on evilnessOriginally Posted by gRomoZeka
But Lenin makes sense as an ideologue who was one of the people who brought about the regime. Stalin would not fit so well here since his writings have not been of any significance.
Perhaps Trotzky would be a better example than even Lenin, but Lenin is better known.
And besides these three, I can't really think of any good examples -- remember that we are looking for people who first constructed their ideologies in relative obscurity well before implementing them and committing major atrocities. If you can come up with "hundreds of names", name them

He did, but he didn't exactly do it in obscurity, and I don't think anyone had any doubt in his capabilities and intentions at that time.Originally Posted by kalinka_vinnie
Now, DDT's article on Buckaroos is certainly another matter, and once he takes over the world we'll all be wondering how could we have missed the early signs.

Whaddya mean what's wrong with Lenin? He founded the friggin' Soviet Union which lead to the death of millions of innocent people, food shortages, gulags, secret police...I could go on and on! Geez is this forum full of nothing but communists?? (I'm not saying you specifically are a commie, kalinka, but I've sure met a lotta people who are...)Originally Posted by kalinka_vinnie
Well, it is kind of problematic to blame the founder of a nation for its future misdeeds.
Should we hate Bismarck for uniting Germany in 1871, because that fostered the nationalism that eventual would lead Hitler to power?
Should we hate Mahatma Gandhi for expelling the British from India and therefore create a 70 year hateful enviroment between India and Pakistan, and cause Pakistan to foster terrorists that attack innocent American lives? Not to talk about hiding Bin Laden. It's all Gandhi's fault, you know!

For a moment there, I had this very clear picture in my head: Bush stormed into the Mausoleum, smashed the sarcophagus and beat up the Lenin rag doll in front of frightened tourists yelling "Shock and Awe, sucker!!!".
I've got a TV, and I'm not afraid to use it
Rag doll? No. Lenin is so evil that he qualifies as a "possessed ventriloquist dummy," if not a full-fledged "Chucky." This is not a tough choice, people. Select the correct answer:Originally Posted by adoc

"gulags" -- I guess, its popular (and very silly) name for Soviet prison system?Originally Posted by RusskiSlav
Well, it did exist. And, even in its worst times (1935-1940) it contained 2-2,5 mln of prisoners... roughly the same number, as in prisons of modern USA.
Horrible times it were.
Oh yes, Soviet Union had a secret police. BTW, Russian Empire before revolution had one too. As well, as USA, UK, Germany, France, Israel, and lots of other countries. So?Originally Posted by RusskiSlav

Please, give your definition of "communist". Is this any person, who dares to disagree with you, and don't perceive the world in black and white without halftones? (And, if you even seen, how fiercely kalinka attacked Stalin in some discussions, you'll never call him "a commie" )Originally Posted by RusskiSlav

The US has police but not secret police the same way the KGB was. The KGB (in Stalinist times) took you away to the gulag if they thought you were "subversive". And prisons in the US are for REAL prisoners, not innocent people who disagree with the government. If the US put people who hate communism in jail, I wouldn't be sitting here typing this right nowOriginally Posted by Scorpio
My definition is of a commie is not simply anyone who disagrees with me. I said I didn't specifically call kalinka a commie, and I'm sorry I exaggerated...I was just venting some anger there.(And, if you even seen, how fiercely kalinka attacked Stalin in some discussions, you'll never call him "a commie" )
