There's no MacDonalds in Ivanovo, but they do have a Макмастерс (complete with golden "M" logo)

Most McDonalds are a franchise. So the owners of the foreign resturants are not big fat Yanks but the local people. McDonalds only receives a percentage for the use of their trademarks.
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
Reminds me of in the Eddie Murphy movie Coming to America, where that woman's father owns McDowell's.
That's exactly what sprang to my mind too
Was there not a Russian style fastfood place in the Manezhaya? I remember enjoying that food.
I just scanned the web and found fast food and American chain resturants all over Moscow. Check out the Rosinter Co. at.....

I was watching some show on Food Network once while waiting for Alton Brown (perhaps the only reason for that channel to exist) to come on, and they showed all these American-style fast food places in Russia. According to the show, southern fried chicken is particularly popular.
Ростик'с is everywhere in Moscow and has typical American fried chicken and fries. The decor even looks American. Except for the pelmani and shashlik on the menu it could be Anywhere USA.

About the prices in McDonalds in Moscow: 1 Bigmac = 41 R, 1 hamburger = 15 R, 1 cheeseburger = 21 R. And this is not very cheap, and I think don't worth money. Paying 15 roubles for pair pieces of bread with a thin slice of fried meat between? No, thanks.
It's really a pity there aren't so much real alternatives to MD in Moscow. Only ones I can remember are "Russkoye Bistro" and "Metro-Express" (on some metro stations). Well, its better than nothing...

you all don't eat Bagels in Australia... you have been deprived man

it is hard to explain what a bagel is. the Australians probably have another name for it. It is like a thick donut but it isnt sweet and you put cream cheese on them.

Bagels are a predominantly Jewish food item (which makes it all the more ironic that McGonad's serves them with sausage...not to say Jews don't eat it when no one's looking). It is boiled dough that is baked until the outside is extremely chewy, and I've never had one from a fast food restaurant but I can't imagine it is very authentic (or edible). Although the ones from Dunkin Donuts are all right, so I could be mistaken. A McDonald's bagel is no doubt covered in the same copious amount of mystery grease that congeals over every item on their menu. Even the shakes! Oh, that reminds me. Did you know they were forced to stop calling them milkshakes because there is no milk in them and it was false advertising? Appetizing.
Isn't it all pig fat?

yeh... they call them "triple thick shakes"... but i still like their breakfasts

I assume it's some sort of malted whey powder and water. Or did you mean the mystery grease, which I believe is vegetable oil and beef tallow. That's another funny thing (well not funny if you're a vegetarian). They claim their fries are cooked in 100% vegetable oil. Sure, but that's if you don't count the pre-cooking process at the manufacturing plant where they soak them in beef fat for flavor.
