Part of that endeavor will require learning to feel for the prepositions themselves, and part will require learning pairings with verb prefixes. Verb prefixes add a motion-meaning, that naturally matches a corresponding preposition of the same meaning—but... The corresponding preposition is not the only preposition that can appear with the verb. For instance you could:
выйти во вдор из дома
"Мы только что подошли из-за угла."

Generally:
до- > до
про- > через, мимо
под- > к

Not to mention the fact that the verbs of motions each can have non-spacial meanings, which no longer really use the spacial relations of the prepositions
