Thread: Russian family-in-law

I was just wondering about the following terms, Свекровь, Свёкор, Тёща,Тесть, Деверь, Свояк, Своячиница, Шурин, Невестка и Зять.
The are translated as Mother-inlaw father-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. But all these terms are kind of confusing me. In the dictionary it said that Cвекровь and Cвёкор are the mother and father in-law of the Husband, so does that mean that it's his mother and father in law and the wife's biological parents or the other way around? and as for the brothers and sisters-in-law these terms are quite confusing could someone please explain them.

Свекровь is the mother of the husband.
for ex. if you are a woman and you get married, than the mother of your husband is your Свекровь.

If you are a man and got married that the mother of your wife is your Тёща.

Мать жены - теща
отец жены - тесть
мать мужа - свекровь
отец мужа - свекор
сестра жены - свояченица
брат жены - шурин
сестра мужа - золовка
брат мужа - деверь
мужья сестер - свояки
жены братьев - жена сына - сноха, невестка
муж дочки - зять
