Do you notice how the verb does not have present tense?
Бандиты захватили полицейского и собираются его убить. "Я не полезу туда", - подумал Шварценеггер, подсматривавший за ними.
(то есть, Шварценеггер решил не вмешиваться.)

Я не лажу туда - present tense, regular action.
Два друга загадывают друг другу загадки.
--1 Угадай: два кольца, два конца, а посередине гвоздик, что это?
--2 свадьба геев?
--1 Погоди, а гвоздик тут при чём?
--2 я не знаю. Я в их дела не лажу.

The translation is definitely not 'climb'. May be, 'to meddle' ?

Полажу - is the form of another verb ладить, Trump is used to say (in pure Russian media): "мы могли бы с ними поладить (но сначала я введу санкции!)"

Interestingly, that 1st person singular forms of both 'лазить' and 'ладить' coincide: "я лажу".

Didn't know about 'лазить' and 'ладить' , interesting. Even the stress on лажу is the same.
I found the sentence on a site as an example of correct use of a verb of motion. I suppose it would work if a climber was pointing out to his friend the route he wants to take up a mountain, saying '... сегодня я не полезу туда, но туда.'

I expected it to have the context of, maybe, a soldier refusing a command to scale a wall, saying to his seargent 'Я никогда не буду делать это', which is why it seemed wrong to me. A failure of imagination on my part, perhaps?
