    У меня хороший друг употребляющий почасту выражение: ничего себе!
    Это показывает одобрение (e.g. well done, no bad) или удивление (говоришь серьезно?)?
    Чем больше слов, тем меньше они стоят.

    That's context dependent. More about being surprised though.

    As for the synonyms, one that immediately comes to mind is "вот это да!"
