www.dictionary.com has a new translator. i toyed around with it a little but, it seems alright, but it translates некогда as "no time". and such, but i think it is decent. it passed my было и прошло test.

there is a difference between некогда and никогда. The first expresses a lack of time, as do the rest of the negated pronouns with не instead of ни. никогда means never, but if you use subject in dative (i think) + некогда+inf then it means the subject had no time to perform the given activity.

here is a great link on what im talking about...has a ton of examples too. Note that when put in different cases the nu and ne get split from the word with the preposition in between the two.

Некогда may sometimes mean also some time before, once upon a time, as it to say.

is there actually a sound diffrence ? do you say "nyekoda" as opposed to "nikogda" ? godmn im going to be so misunderstood

You mean никогда and некогда, right?

man what the hell, why does russian have to be so ... like this ?! i mean i could understand a накогда or нукоrда but, и and е... jesus. i'm still confused over the whole себя thing... i'll take it one thing at i time i suppose

its not as bad as other words that sound exactly alike, nichevo and ne chevo for example. The stress is different and you should be able to hear the diff between nee and ne

Don't worry, Russians think the same way about English (with more reason I am sure )
