Coupon is a totally different thing. The post-USSR Ukranian monetary unit was popularly called "купон" because each bank note had this word on it, although the official name of the unit was still карбованец. (E.g. "купон 25 карбованцiв"). People colloqually called them coupons to make clear they are talking about the "new" Ukranian money and not the "old" USSR rubles.
