Thread: What does поздно mean in this sentence

I read this sentence in my Russian textbook and was having trouble understanding the use of the word "поздно" in the following sentence:

Потом я смотрю телевизор и поздно ложусь спать.

Does this translate..."Then I watched tv and afterwards went to bed" or "Then I watched tv and went to bed at a late hour"?

Then I watch tv and go to bed at a late hour.
(a regular action)

Oh, that's right. смотрю is present tense.
