    Some simple phrases to translate.

    Can someone please check for errors?

    He was informed there was a war.
    Ему сообщали что была война.

    She is prettier than x.
    она красивее чем x.

    She was looking for a bride.
    Она искала невесту.

    He sailed across the sea.
    Он приплыл поперек моря.

    She was looking for a bride.
    Она искала невесту.

    She was greedy and selfish.
    Она была жадна и эгоистична.

    He was smiling while working.
    Он улыбался, работая.

    He was heartbroken.
    Он был убитый горем.

    They lived happily ever after.
    Они жили счастливо с тех пор.
    Какая разница, умереть богатым или бедным?

    Какой толк от богатства если ты не счастлив.

    He was informed there was a war.
    Ему сообщали что была война.

    Ему сообщили...
    "сообщали" means he was informed more than once or
    you can say "Ему уже сообщали...".


    He sailed across the sea.
    Он приплыл поперек моря.

    "Он плыл через море." or "Он переплыл море."
    "поперек" cannot be applied to things like sea or land or mountains.
    Only to rather small objects.
    "приплыл" means he arrived by sea, so together with "across" it
    doesn't make much sense.


    He was smiling while working.
    Он улыбался, работая.

    I would say "Он работал, улыбаясь."
    Unless his main goal was to smile, and work was something totally unimportant.


    He was heartbroken.
    Он был убитый горем.

    You can translate this literally: Его сердце было разбито.
    I'll be back! -------------- Я еще вернусь!

    is this correct? for hard signs do we put an a aposterphy?''''' or do we ignore them.

    Она искала невесту.
    I thought I corrected this in your other thread, kwatts - women traditionally search for husbands, not brides.
